EZDealerQuote came about because my business had a specific need and there was no service available to meet that need. So, I built the service myself.
The concept originated when I became a retail dealer for several large wholegoods manufacturers and distributors. These companies all featured great products, but their pricing and inventory management systems were archaic at best. Manually edited PDFs and convoluted, inaccurate spread sheets were the norm. To compound the issue, many products had numerous configurable options, making it virtually impossible to provide customers with timely, consistent and accurate quotes.
As if that weren't enough, these companies would also send out monthly pricing adjustments, modifications to available financing programs, or product discounts and rebates that might apply to individual products or only specific groups of products. Furthermore, none of these companies had any system for tracking sales leads, customers, historical quotes, etc. There was simply no way to keep accurate track of what each customer had been told, by whom, and for what combination of products.
I was astonished at the amount of work and difficulty involved with what should be the most basic, fundamental process for anyone trying to sell a product--the ability to simply give one's customers a quote!Above all, we were not able to meet customer's needs, and that meant we were losing sales and losing profits.
